Markets pay truck companies hundreds of dollars to haul organic waste to landfills, however A.G. Kawamura, former Secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture states that there are volunteers willing to take the waste and turn it into a value-added product. As an example, Kawamura cites a Seattle based company that compresses wasted plastic and processes it into useable oil.
