While California law states that consumers own their own utilities information, utilities companies still hold it within their company walls. To monetize it at a future date? To keep consumers in the dark? Google's William Weihl states that ultimately utilities companies will release that information out to consumers. "You live in the house; that data is about your life," Weihl says.
